Rareities, by Anooja International, is an online marketplace for rare products made in different states of India with basically two categories, viz; Indian artifacts and Indian Handlooms and clothing. These products, mostly specific to a geography or a region having a national and international appeal are made across India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Assam to Kutch, showcasing the diversity and richness of Indian culture. These products are generally made from materials found locally and are crafted by skilled craftsmen who have inherited the skill traditionally from their forefathers who have nurtured these rare arts for centuries. They are diverse, rich in history and religion, and mostly reflects the influence of different empires. Throughout centuries, Indian artifacts, handlooms, and other traditional handmade products have been embedded as a culture and tradition within rural communities of India. As far as art and culture are concerned, India features amongst the culturally rich countries in the world. The country is fortunate enough to possess some highly skilled artisans who have nurtured these art forms for centuries. They have increased the fame of Indian handicrafts around the globe. Many rural people still earn their livelihood from their creative pieces of art. India is a manufacturing hub of varied kinds of handicrafts, which are popular even in international markets.
Though there is an ever growing demand for these Indian ethnic products, still the sector largely remains unorganized. It’spraiseworthy that the Indian government has been doing a lot to uplift these art forms for past many years, still there are many scopes of improvement at every field whether its quality, design, reach, awareness or delivery. To overcome the fragmented supply chain, lack of organization and seasonal production nature of the crafts sector, there is a need to provide business support and leverage technology for information and process innovations to increase efficiencies in craft production, handloom weaving and enable artisans to produce more, efficiently. Rareitis will thrive to revive the consumer interest in crafts, hand-made products like handlooms and fabric, and making crafts relevant to increasingly urban lifestyles; strengthening branding efforts to enable Indian crafts and handlooms to compete in global markets, and developing new business models that blend social and commercial goals.
